CultureNet, Open Text + Tom Cone

There are plenty of reasons to cross the bridge and hit Capilano College on the North Shore over the next four days:

1. Wednesday: a CultureNet program information session with guest speaker Sandra Seekins (Art History) in Library 196, Capilano College’s North Vancouver campus. For more details see blog entry for Monday, February 26th.

2. Thursday: The Spring 2007 OPEN TEXT reading series begins on March 1st with a reading by Nanaimo poet Peter Culley, who will be reading from his new work, “The Age of Briggs & Stratton.”

Peter Culley, poet and art critic, has published Twenty-one (Oolican 1980), Fruit Dots (Tsunami 1985), Natural History (Fissure 1986) The Climax Forest (Leech, 1995) and Hammertown (New Star, 2003). The untitled second installment of Hammertown is due from New Star in the fall of ’08. His writing on artists such as Stan Douglas, Roy Arden, Kelly Wood and Geoffrey Farmer has appeared in numerous catalogues and journals. Culley resides in South Wellington, near Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island, BC.

3. Saturday: TH(ink) quick - Six plays will be performed by Tom Cone’s TH(ink) Company, comprised of Capilano College English students and Theatre students, on Saturday, March 3rd (8pm) in the Arbutus Theatre. Tom Cone is The Capilano Review’s current writer-in-residence. The performance will be followed by a discussion.
